It was a day late in the fall. The kind of fall day where it was pretty chilly, but the snow wasn't quite falling yet.
The two walked hand and hand through the trees until they found what she was looking for.
"this is where we had our picnic," she exclaimed. "the huge spider crawled on Addie right over there!"
While she took a trip down memory lane, telling the boy all about her life and her friends and her summer, he listened and smiled. At the end of a story he started pushing her from her perch on a board serving as a bridge across the dried up stream. She started to fall but grabbed onto his arms to stop herself because there was no way she was falling into that mud behind her. As she tried to steady herself, he pulled her in close, the smile fading from his face, with a glint in his eye. He leaned forward and her eyes fluttered closed on their own accord.
It felt nice, but who is it that decided that exchanging saliva was a way to demonstrate your affection? What's wrong with high fives? That's just what I've been wondering.
