the story of the girl who didn't belong much of anywhere

this girl in particular had long flowing hair that often changed colors.
this one girl didn't dress to impress, she dressed to disappear.
she tried at first to fit, she tried to impress.
she tried.
and she tried.
and she tried again.

every time she tried she lost a little piece of herself.
until she didn't even know who she was anymore.
she'd given so much, and gotten so little in return.
that's the kind of thing, she decided, that can break a person.

she's sure that one day she will regret not putting more effort in.
but for now she's exhausted and can't bring herself to say hi, even if that is the best way to make friends.

because she's a little broken and a little bent out of shape.
and she's in need of people who remember who she is.
she needs them to remember so that she can be reminded.
she needs to be with people who love her and care about her.

she wanted to leave.
leave the people behind who didn't care.
she wanted to go to the lovely meadow she could glimpse from her place in the forest.
but the ones in the meadow are happy.

maybe the color of her hair changes based on her mood.
the darker the hair, the sadder she seems to get.
